Learning and living

“Die Freie Schmiede” (The Free Forge) in the Fünfseenland region (Bavaria)  is an extracurricular educational center for children and young people where they can live out their creativity, freely pursue their interests and their joy of playing, and experience a supportive community.

Sudbury Schulen

In everyday school life, the focus is on imparting knowledge and meeting requirements and achievements. Young people have little experience of self-efficacy, are rarely heard, and are rarely able to actively shape their environment with their own ideas.

"The Free Forge" offers an important balance and creates a valuable space for development and experience: a place of inspiration where young people can grow in a cooperative environment – far from guidelines, judgments, and pressure. It's a second home where they feel comfortable and accepted, where they can unwind, and freely organize their time. In doing so, they learn to take responsibility for themselves and the community. They are provided with a free space in which they can forge and realize their own ideas, plans, and dreams.

The extracurricular and family-supplementary program is aimed at young people aged 5 to approximately 19 years and includes opening hours until the evening hours as well as weekend programs.

Events, creative offers,
Academy, CoWorkingSpace

The Freie Schmiede is not only enlivened by its independent educational setting and its community, but also offers other activities. These include music, dance, movement, and theater for children and young people, as well as holiday camps that are also open to external guests. An event space allows for a variety of events, such as fairy tale and theater performances, concerts, lectures, and festivals.

An academy is attached to the site. Seminars are offered here for those interested in education, parents, and educators, in an inspiring setting where theory comes to life.

A co-working space invites innovative entrepreneurs who want to support a change in values and the development of schools and education. If interested, they can involve young people, thus creating a unique learning environment for entrepreneurship and team spirit between young and old.
